Happy New Year! As we reflect on the close of 2025, we are filled with deep gratitude for each and every one of you. Your overwhelming support of our year-end campaign and Christmas wishlist was remarkable. Thanks to your generosity, we surpassed our $150,000 goal, helping prepare us to best serve the children and families in our programs throughout 2026.
Inspired by this same spirit of generosity, we coordinated a special day of service just before Christmas for participants in our Bridge Program. The Bridge Program includes young adults in our university scholarship program, work-study program, and our transition program for young women aging out of the Mission Home. As we walk alongside these young adults in their pursuit of professional careers, economic independence, and a more stable future, we believe it is equally important to nurture their own commitment to serving others.
- Kengie and Emperatriz help prepare vegetables for the communal lunch. Kengie is in her 3rd year of university studying tourism, and Emperatriz is in her first of our DP World work-study program.
- Luis, a work-study scholarship recipient, helps prepare lentil stew as part of the communal lunch.
- Rolando, a university program alumnus, pours clean water into the cooking pots to begin cooking rice.
Led by Jenny, our Bridge Program Coordinator and a Mission Santa Maria alumna, twenty-four of our young adults spent the day serving the elderly in our local community. Together, they helped coordinate and prepare and host a party including a Mass service, cooked and served a communal lunch, and assembled and distributed food bags for participants to take home. The day was received with great joy, especially the time spent connecting and sharing stories across generations.
- Each program participant went home with a bag of food and a celebratory Christmas cake, arranged and prepared by our volunteers.
- Part of the volunteer day included setting up for and hosting a Mass service. The day brought over 500 elderly community members together.
We shared a few photos from the day of service here. They reflect not only the care provided to the elderly community, but also the generosity and leadership growing in our young adults—thanks to you.
